Birthday thoughts

It's a long time since I last blogged as I have been quite busy previously.

I always don't have a urge to celebrate my own birthday, or maybe I just don't understand the importance of it. To me, I feel that it's nothing significant (no offences to anyone). I even told sm not to plan anything for me on this day as I want to have my own plans.

To me I personally feel, I feel that this day is not meant for myself or for people to remember me. This day should be the day that I remember my own parents. Why? There wouldn't be a miracle (me) if they never create one in the first place haha, and if there isn't me in this world, who is going to celebrate this day with you?

My father should be proud that I am the only surviving commando swimmer that made it out of his whole wiped out army haha, and a thumbs up to my mum as she had to go through the tremendous amount of pain to give birth to this big head freak! (That's what she said lol)

So I decided to spend more time with them for this year birthday and many more subsequent ones :) Next, I want to thank all my friends who had wishes me and a extremely big thanks for all the birthday gifts I have received, really appreciate it. Lastly, a big hug to my dear for the chalet treat and your every effort to celebrate with me.

P.S: I don't celebrate my birthday doesn't mean I don't celebrate for my friends, don't worry ! :P
It's just the difference in the perspective of views I suppose. Anyway, I really had a great time this year.

Inspirational Video by Nick Vujicic

A famous motivational speaker, Zig Ziglar, once said “People often say that motivation doesn’t last. Well, neither does bathing – that’s why we recommend it daily!”

Things do happens in life. If it's not always as smooth sailing as you want it, don't despair and look at it with a positive mindset. And if you fell, tired and always finding excuses to climb up everytime, perhaps you should take a look at this video.

Nick Vujicic’s video is unforgettable and teaches so many important life lessons in less than five minutes. If he never made a commitment to do whatever it took to overcome the disempowering self-beliefs he developed at an early age. He who is now living a life with no limits which is key to happiness and success may be one who whine and curse at every single things in life. He won't be the Nick that everyone loves too.

There may be times where you will find yourself lost. You may seem to be so distant from the initial path you wanted to take. Setbacks, failures, mistakes all piled up together, and not to even mention the tremendous amount of stress that you might had. But the only power you have is your own mind! Only you can abandon all these excuses that you are giving yourself and stand up firm.

It's never easy but never think you can't :)

Kids Thinking II

A student had give me a idea me on how I can communicate better with kids by speaking their language. The story start when I am preparing this kid for his grading test which is hopefully within 2 mths. I gave him a deadline because I want him to stay focus and be committed toward his goals. On asking how is his progress, he mentioned about his busy school work, CCAs, and games that deprive him of his time to revising and honing his wushu skills. Yes, it's the word "game" that open up the topic to let us communicate.

This is our conversation :

Me : Actually your knowledge in practicing wushu is just like levelling up in your maple story game

Kid: Why?

Me: How many mushroom you need to kill to level up when are about level 10?

Kid: dunno, 10 - 20 of them?

Me: What about when you are level 30?

Kid: wah... like need to kill dunno how many hundreds of them

Me: To level faster, you go for something harder and gain more exp per time rite? or else you will waste alot of time and get very boring

Kid: *nod head

Me: That's the same for wushu, everytime I tell you your mistakes and how to do it correctly. Then you should think about the problem in your head and how to improve on it. If not, you are like still levelling up fighting easy monsters but on a super slow basis because you don't really understand what is wrong yet.

Kid: But but fighting harder monsters will waste alot of HP (life), sometime even will die.

Me: That's why you will get better equipments and learn more skills to prevent yourself from further damage and dying rite? Just like your wushu routines, your stances go lower, execute punches with more strength, display more explosive speed you always tell me you want to die liao.

Kid (getting excited): ya hor! i know liao.. i will push myself level up faster !

Me: 2 months, jiayou *smile

*end conversation *

I can't believe myself too that I can explain this logic to him so calmly. Throughout this, I feel like laughing at myself lol but at least it deliver its purpose which is to let him understand :) He did put in alot of effort after that. Hope to see more improvement in him soon

" Neill Blomkamp" District 9 Movie Review

Watched this show "District 9" directed by Neill Blomkamp last week with a couple of friends. I had absolutely no idea what genre of show this is as I didn't even see any advertising on this movie before. Anyway just tagged along and see how it goes.

The movie started and for the first 15 mins, I was quite lost as I thought that I am watching a documentary show. I asked ziwei what's going on since he is the one who recommend the show then I realise that this is a sci-fi show regarding aliens haha. I was practically sleeping during the early stage of the show.

The concept of the story is quite interesting, its about a spaceship that is found hovering above Johannesburg, South Africa during 1982. The story later goes on showing the stranded aliens without the leader were transport down to earth and live in slum in a area call district 9. However, for 20 years they had been here and this is causing alot of discomfort between human and the aliens known as "prawns", so the government initated a plan to shift the 1.8 million prawns to district 10 which is 240 KM away from the human race.

The main character Sharlto Copley as Wikus is a worker for the MNU department which is responsible for the big operation of shifting this prawn to their new location. Wikus is responsible to let the prawns understand the eviction and move. But he accidentally touched one of the fluid which made him fall sick and eventually he found out that he is slowly transforming into a alien himself. Starting from this stage begin the whole story which is quite exciting I would say as he is the first human to fuse perfectly with the prawns. I shall cease to explain further or it will become a spoiler haha.

The twist of the story is good as it is quite unexpected, it also shows the intelligence of the prawns and their technology especially their weapon, perhaps it want to destroy the concept of people's mindset of aliens. The prawns also got "Yi Qi"(brotherhood) sia lei haha quite cool. It's one of the best sci-fi show I ever watched and I find it quite worthwhile despite I slept for the first 15-20 mins of the show.

Master Zz pigeon

On teacher day, we came across a big fat brown pigeon sleeping soundly when min and I walked to Farrer Park Mrt. It is so big size I almost mistaken it as a chicken until I saw the end of it's body. It was sleeping soundly and swaying side to side and doesn't even care about its surrounding. We sneaked up closer to it to snap a shot and try it sensitivity.

And the results??? It don't even care! haha, Just flaring up it's feather abit with eyes closed..

This is the true "Lao Jiao" haha ( I mean it's is super confident in his own territory ! )

P.S: No birds are harmed in the process of this funshot :D

Prawning with buddies

Haha long time never go prawning le.. Finally found some kakis (shunlong, ziwei and guangyao) to go together last week :P Guangyao actually intend to stay awhile but he joined us too in the end. We went to the one at Bishan call Haibin. I did not catch much, only about 5 or 6 sad, but its good that all of us managed to catch some prawns with the help of a kind uncle :)

A total of 31 prawns, by erm.. 4 person LOL.. We will do better next time haha, most importantly is the fun we had! All must go and learn how to remove the prawn from hook liao heh, next time go play again ppl :D

Specially dedicated to oink oink

A song for you dear, I have nothing much to express just like the grumpy old man in "Up". But this song bring up my spirit, hopefully to you too :)

Heard this song on air resang by Khalil Fang:

Title: Nothing gonna change my love for you

If i had to live my life without you
near me the days would all be empty
the nights would seem so long
with you i see forever oh so clearly
i might have been in love before
but it never felt this strong
our dreams are young and we both know
they'll take us where we want to go
hold me now touch me now
i dont want to live without you

Nothing gonna change my love for you
you ought know by now how much i love you
one thing you can be sure of
i never ask for more than your love
nothings gonna change my love for you
you ought know by now how much i love you
the world may change my whole life through but
nothing gonna change my love for you

if the road ahead is not so easy
our love will lead a way for us
just like a guiding star
ill be there for you if you should need me
you dont have to change a thing
i love you just the way you are
so come with me and share the view
I'll help you see forever too
hold me now touch me now
i dont want to live without you

Nothing gonna change my love for you
you ought know by now how much i love you
one thing you can be sure of
i never ask for more than your love
nothing gonna change my love for you
you ought know by now how much i love you
the world may change my whole life through
but nothings gonna change my love for you

Nothing gonna change my love for you
you ought know by now how much i love you
one thing you can be sure of
i never ask for more than your love

Nothing gonna change my love for you
you ought know by now how much i love you
one thing you can be sure of
i never ask for more than your love
nothing gonna change my love for you

you ought know by now how much i love you
the world may change my whole life through
but nothing gonna change my love for you ...

Nothing gonna change my love for you
you ought know by now how much i love you
one thing you can be sure of
i never ask for more than your love...

My first triathalon

Joined my first triathalon with my buddy kk and his gf sam as a team relay. It is very fun and although I never really train well for my running but I'm glad we did it! Especially with help and guidance from KK:) S_B_R noobies (Swim bike run noobies) is our team name, as it is the first time KK is doing olympics distance for biking, and sam doing 1.5 km for open waters, of course my first triathalon run, never run so long distance after my army days.

It is really fun to participate as a relay team, although a individual event is more of a personal achievement. Will aim for that next time when I am more ready, training up my stamina and endurance especially the swimming event haha. It's sad to know that one of the participants had passed away, but I hope this incident will not affect those with the passion for triathalon.

Here are some pics of the event, taken by wonderful dear and thanks for supporting us that day :))

Kick start with sam in her 1.5 swim

Passion / Positive Thinking / Maximising Your Time

I always had parents and students asking me this question. My kid or I have learn wushu for xxx years, why haven't we achieve this xxx results in wushu??? No, it is not because you/your child had no talent in this area.

There is only one main question. How great is your passion for this sport? How far will you go for you to excel in this sports even if it take into your personal time (sleeping/gaming/playing time etc.. ) If there are alot of commitment you are having now, which is your priority?

For me, everytime I start on something which I really like, I will put all my effort into it be it success or failure at least I had done my best. I am not really a talented or bright person which can pick up a skill that easily but I'm ready to go all out be it success or failure I knew I learnt something. Of course, I personally don't like failures, so I will always try to research and improve on whatever I feel I am lacking.

Last time when I was in band percussion, my rhythm was crappy, my rolling sucks. I spent almost everyday doing the drumroll, I will roll with my chopsticks during meals and be scolded by my parents but that moment of insanity really get me going and its definitely rewarding. When I was in army, I was amazed by the nature of planted tank and decided to research and start my one myself. I failed alot of times before I finally get my current tank going, it's not really that fantastic but through the learning process I learn alot of things :)

Same for wushu, I started learning wushu because I had a passion for it since young. It may be a influence of Jet Li's show too lol. But I came to love the art more and more as time passes, and with a group of supportive wushu peeps together. But not everything was smooth sailing. I am poor in body coordination, flexibility and can't remember movements very well when I first started. I am always stressed when I seem to be only one to drop out of the group whenever they are doing the routine, so I tell myself I must work even harder. I practice my movements every once and then when I got time just to get the hang of it. The thing is to adopt a positive mindset! Don't feel that why is it unfair you are working harder, if you treating it as a passion, you won't even feel that it is tough at all! [Note: I am not trying to said that I'm great k. It's just something I hope to share :) and I am not ashamed of it ] I have a great shifu who taught me alot and broaden my horizons in life and I'm very thankful for that :)

The last part is how to maximise the usage of your time. Let's say a person A said he practice wushu for 3 years, whereby he only practice a 2 hr session once per week VS another person B who fork out time to practice 3 times a week @ 2 hrs per session too. Just counting by 1 month, B already trained 16 hrs more than A. Lets do a simple calculation of maths:

Person A: 2 hrs/week 8 hrs/mth 96hr/year
so Person A only train 96 hrs / 24hrs(one day) = 4 days
so a year of 365 days, person A only used up 4 days of time

Person B: 6 hrs/week 24 hrs/mth 288hr/year
so Person B train 288hrs / 24hrs (one day) = 12 days
so a year of 365 days, person B used about 12 full days for his training (3x of A)

Imagine both Person A and B learn for 3 yrs. I don't need to say out you all should also guess clearly who will be the one with a clearer knowledge and techniques. Of course there will be exceptions, this is just a simple concept drawn up so we don't need to argue whether A is more hardworking while B is a slacker haha, just imagine they are both hardworking k? So the key factor is to maximize the usage of time for your skills.

So should you question yourself who far will go to step out of your comfort zone just to pursue your passion? How much time are you willing to put into doing something you really like? Are you making up any excuses for yourself when you faced failures? FYI: This may not neccessarily apply to wushu field only but also to other things in life like ur own hobbies, career, others etc..

This mark the end of my post, yeah i know it's a long one and thanks for reading :)

Ikea @ Tampines

Went to Ikea Tampines on sun. I was actually intending to source for a new worktable after mine gave way abt 2 mths ago, but for now at least is still usable for the time being. The tampine branch was so big! so much better than the one at queenway! My first time there after its opening since last year. There are alot of showroom concepts which is quite interesting, but although alot of ppl said that Ikea's stuffs are nice but generally they are not durable. I don't care la, as long as it serve its purpose with reasonable price i think should be ok with me.

Not sure la, saw a table I like for a price of less than $100, quite within my budget lol. Maybe will consider getting it. But I gg back to come up with plans of arranging my stuffs first, after the walk for abt 2 hrs, we went to their cafe which is quite interesting, we see alot of ppl pushing trolley of food around. Not bad la the trip though I come back empty handed, but at least got some ideas what kind of furnitures i am intending to get for my room :)

Actually intend to go to the courts there too, but not enough time as I need to get to jurong and it was the peak hrs that time. After the training went hm and joined my buddy for a run training at brickland there. Stamina wise and pacing not very stable yet, will do some more training before the 10KM run!
